What’s the best type of wedding veil to capture ‘flying veil’ shots? When choosing a veil for your wedding day, if you are looking for the best kind of veil for flying veil shots, you will want to pay attention to several key features.

First and foremost you want the veil to be lightweight. You want to avoid veils that have heavy beading throughout, including on the end of the veil. Heavy ornate beading can pull the veil down and weigh you down too. Especially on windy days!

Having a little bit of light lace detail at the end of the veil can, however, add extra interest in photos and will be excellent to use to photograph your bridal details too.

The ideal length of veil to get really epic shots is a cathedral or modified cathedral (slighter shorter) length.

Most cathedral veils measure approximately 108 to 120 inches (2.74 to 3 metres) and trail beyond the train of a wedding gown, although this will depend on the type of wedding gown you choose. However, cathedral veils work well both with tighter fitting mermaid gowns and fuller volume ball gowns.

Light cathedral length veils are wispy and romantic and are beautifully photographed in photos taken from behind while the bride is walking down the aisle and, of course, in shots with bride and groom together, including the famous flying veil shot!

Keep in mind that veils of this length are not just for traditional and/or church (cathedral) ceremonies. They can also be used for added elegance and sophistication for rustic barn and/or outdoor weddings too!
