February 20, 2022
Caitlyn and Jake celebrated 8 years together by becoming Mr. and Mrs. on 02.20.2022, tying the knot on the actual anniversary of when they first met and started dating (not a small feat in covid times!). High school sweethearts, Caitlyn and Jake did their wedding their way, right from the beginning. Set at the historic and quaint Cellar52 in St. Jacobs, their winter wedding was full of rustic charm, with pine cones and evergreen garland, and multiple fireplaces lit to warm their guests. Everything about the day reflected them – laid back, and focused on each other.
Fun was the theme of the day throughout, from Jake’s unconventional music as he made a big splash with his entrance (definitely a great way to add some levity to the tears that were already streaming), to their themed cakes, and guest signing replica Adirondack chair. There were the ‘flower men’ with their fanny packs and flower petals, the beautiful snowflake bracelet Jake gifted to Caitlyn, and the earrings (and second wedding band) Caitlyn wore, reflecting her world as a geological engineer.
Their romantic candlelit afternoon winter wedding was not only beautiful, it was anything but ordinary. And with Caitlyn living for all things winter (Jake not so much), we had to sneak out in the blustery cold and capture a few ‘first married’ photos with them in the perfect fading glow of a winter afternoon (wrangling Caitlyn’s veil in the strong winds was comical but we did indeed capture some beautiful photos for them to treasure). The funny part……we were stationed on the sidewalk near a lovely historic home in downtown St. Jacobs and a woman saw us struggling and offered to have us all come in and warm up for awhile……so sweet. We must have been quite the sight! In fact Caitlyn and Jake’s wedding story is perfectly aligned with their proposal story 2 years ago which involved Kraft dinner with ketchup instead of the romantic plan Jake had put together for Caitlyn on the pier in Kingston (as the story goes, it had something to do with Caitlyn being cold and needing to go home to get a snack!). Surrounded by family and close friends, Caitlyn and Jake’s marriage vows and wedding day reflected them just perfectly.
During speeches, we learned just how close these two are to their respective families, and what both of them mean to their closest people in the world. We learned about Cait’s warmth and giving personality, and about Jake’s spirited personality and fun shenanigans as a young child. They finished off the early festivities with a heart-warming Father/Daughter dance and their first dance as husband and wife to Mango Tree by the Zac Brown Band, with everyone who knew the words singing right along with them. Perhaps the best way to sum it up are the words inscribed on a gift to Caitlyn from her in-laws: “Let the adventure begin! (It will likely involve comfy crocs and maybe some travelling to Mexico too!) Best wishes to you Caitlyn and Jake as you begin your new adventure together! We were so excited to be a part of your day and to capture some memories for you!
