As we stepped into Katie and Nick’s beautifully decorated, cozy home, with its palette of soft, calming neutrals, I was reminded of what I love so much about this couple. They are always so welcoming, and make you immediately feel like you are a family member. They are relaxed, and fun, and they go with the flow and don’t take things too seriously. And while some time had passed since we had seen them, none of that had changed, even though they were in the early (and often chaotic!) days of welcoming their first newborn! And what a cutie pie he was! It was such a special experience capturing precious moments in the comfort of their own space, and so worth the road trip to Ottawa to see them again and meet sweet little Finn!
The session was filled with so much love and joy as we captured all the little details of this adorable baby boy. As I began photographing baby Finn, I was struck again by the beauty and innocence of his newborn features. His tiny fingers curled around Katie’s as she cradled him gently, or his cute little nose and cheeks as he snuggled up with Nick, and his oh so fun, wispy but spikey hair that has given him his endearing nickname ‘Spike’.
From his tiny toes to his cute little yawns, every moment was heartwarming. We even caught a smile or two when he was awake, and some wonderful photos with his bright eyes shining as he listened intently to his mom and dad talk softly to him.
The strong connection formed between all of them during Finn’s first days was abundantly clear. It was as if they had always been a family of three. Katie and Nick just beamed with pride at their new little squish.
Finn hardly squirmed or fussed at all during our session, his little face only scrunching up once or twice in protest but that passed quickly as soon as he was in mom’s or dad’s arms. See if you can spot one particularly fun and fleeting expression of Finn’s caught on camera that seemed to say: “What you talking about?”
There’s something so special about newborn photography that always warms my heart. There were just so many photos full of authentic and heartfelt connections, it was hard to choose the photos to showcase here. It was moments from this day that made me truly appreciate the power of photography to freeze time and preserve memories for a lifetime.
Finn was changing before their eyes, with his time as a tiny newborn fleeting. I love being able to capture precious moments like these for families and I am so glad that Katie and Nick invited us into their home to meet Finn, witness this special time, and capture some amazing memories that would be cherished for years to come!
I can’t wait for the next opportunity to document more beautiful moments like these for Katie and Nick and their sweet family. Thank you Katie and Nick! I am grateful to share these moments with you.
