October 23, 2021
Looking back over the year that was, I can’t think of a better way to cap off the 2021 wedding season than with this newly married Mr. and Mrs.! Set at Kristy and Colby’s beautiful large country property, a place they dubbed ‘Sunset Ranch’ for its beautiful sunset panoramas, their wedding was completely, 100% them, genuine and authentic in every way.
In no small amount of work, along with their friends, Kristy and Colby absolutely transformed their country property (their ‘shouse’ as they would call it – part ‘house’, part ‘shop’) into a beautiful wedding venue. All engaged and soon-to-be-wed covid couples out there would have a huge appreciation for what this means. With so many couples in 2020, 2021 and 2022 having to change plans, or change course completely, they are being tasked with being their own wedding planners, needing to attend to every detail. Not only did Kristy and Colby take on this task (and they would remind me ‘it takes a village’) they did so brilliantly – everything came off without a hitch!
Their gorgeous fall wedding had the most stunning fall colours! All set off by the bridesmaids wearing blue jay blue and the groomsmen sporting dark suits. And in their photos you can see the most beautiful small touches too. Kristy wore a hairpiece given to her by her mom, they wrote their own vows, did the flowers themselves and, as a barefoot bride despite the October cold, Kristy never strayed from the vision of her perfect day! There was the ceremonial arch, complete with their initials that came from a barn near Tavistock, from friends of the family! And we cannot forget to mention Kristy’s ring, which had been Colby’s nanna’s ring! Loved her unique and intricate wedding band too, which had a vintage look to it!
Kristy and Colby’s autumn sunset wedding was a true family affair, and by family I am referring to their parents and siblings, closest friends, local relatives, and those who had travelled cross-country (including Colby’s good friend Travis!). The bridesmaids and groomsmen were all close friends. But I am also referring to their very special and beloved canine family members, who had special roles in their wedding day.
There was the ever adorable Dalmation pup Aurora (brand new to them – they weren’t supposed to get her so soon before the wedding but they found themselves training her in the middle of wedding planning), Ace, and of course Kristy’s beloved Zena who was to walk with her down the aisle but couldn’t be there in the end. Instead Kristy and Colby’s first look paid homage to Zena and her ongoing presence even though she is not here on earth (and she wears Zena with her every day with a tattoo named for her).
Rain threatened to de-rail their outdoor wedding, but perhaps it was uncannily symbolic as the water works starting flowing too as Kristy made her way down the aisle and Colby awaited her and during their very heartfelt vows.
Dinner was awesome homestyle food, served family style under the garden lights of the tent – the kind you think of when you dream of comfort food! Complete with homemade pie for dessert! And then it was on to speeches and dances and party dancing! We just loved listening to their 80s band, Romeo SexFighter and watching Kristy and Colby and their guests cut a rug on the dance floor to their favourite tunes.
Nothing could stop these two from becoming Mr. and Mrs. Mohr #becomingmohr!!
