Every now and again a night comes along and the light is just perfect, in every way. That was the night of Lindsay and Oliver’s engagement shoot. Along with your clients, you plan for it, you hope for it, you cross your fingers and toes for it, but sometimes it feels like that light can be really rare and you’re always missing it. Nestled in between hailstorms and thundershowers day after day the week before, on Lindsay and Oliver’s night the clouds parted and that golden sun was there, just waiting to be the most incredible backdrop for their photos.
We started our session just like Lindsay and Oliver started their story together, where they first met, at Laurier University in Brantford. The wind and the heat (41 degrees with the humidex!) tried to deter all of us, but could not prevent us from capturing some great photos as Lindsay and Oliver laughed at the challenge of it all. It was going to take more than a little wind and a little heat to prevent them from enjoying themselves. Lindsay’s love of flowers meant we just had to take a few photos in amongst the few flowers with blooms still left, despite the heat, and it also meant that Lindsay and Oliver had to maneouver their way into a few bushes!
And can we talk about that ring? So stunning, and set with Lindsay’s grandmother’s diamonds! The more we got to know Lindsay and Oliver during the course of their session, the more we learned about the many special touches they have included for their day (won’t spoil it for them here though – more on this when I post their wedding blog!), and the more we learned about the people and places that hold meaning for them.
And then……on to the willow tree. Oh that gorgeous, beautiful willow tree! The golden light was the most wonderful reward for Lindsay. She had searched high and low over the course of many weeks for the most ideal location with the just perfect willow tree, and she never let go of her dream of having wispy, romantic photos with the two of them beneath. I am so glad that she is persistent! There was slow dancing to music, lots of laughter, serious romance, and who knew that Oliver had such a smokey, steely eye?! The best part was how easy this whole session turned out to be. The love between these two was evident. Lindsay and Oliver were true naturals, up for any suggestion I sent their way. As Lindsay might say, ‘that’s how we roll’!
One last final stop at the river to chase every little bit of glow that we could (did I mention how easy going these two were and that they were up for anything?) and what started out as a hot humid scorcher full of wind ended with the most beautiful sunset glow on the river. Game for anything, true fun to be around, we are so happy that we got to meet these two and cannot wait to capture their wedding in a few short weeks! And of course capture a few pics pre-ceremony of their lovely dog Kylo!
